The Rise of the Rest: Global Majority Leadership in a New Philanthropic Era

With Naila Farouky, Executive Director of the Arab Foundations Forum

We are all feeling this moment deeply. The attacks on our work and what we care about affect us personally and at multiple levels. How do we not fall into doom and paralysis?

As things fall apart, this moment grants us an opportunity to build something radically new. So, what questions do we need to ask ourselves to do so? How do we exemplify solidarity & love as we build towards a different future?

In this conversation, Naila Farouky shares her experience in growing and making the Arab Foundations Forum a more inclusive, impactful and generous network. She discusses how financial support and governance approaches were reimagined to increase access to funds across the region and engage  people more in resource mobilization efforts.

She also speaks about the differences she's found between Western and Arab philanthropy and ways of giving, and highlights the disparities of who and what gets funded, revealing how current western philanthropic systems often do not uphold care and solidarity.

The most important thing is to approach life and activism from a place of love and compassion, to uplift feminist leadership and solidarity and to recognize different ways of governance and operations that are radically different from what has been imposed on us by patriarchy, occupation and imperialism
